Benghazi, October 22, 2026 (LANA) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Al-Salihin Abdul-Nabi, affirmed his openness to all Libyans, without exception, with the goal of unifying state institutions and the country to help it emerge from its current crisis.
This came during a meeting in Benghazi yesterday, Wednesday, with the Consul General of the Italian Republic, Filippo Colombo, who congratulated him on his election as Speaker of the House and wished him success in the performance of his duties.
The spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Bleihaq, stated that the meeting addressed the historical bilateral relations between the two friendly nations, as well as shared interests—particularly in the economic sphere. Discussions also covered joint cooperation, the contribution of Italian companies to the reconstruction of Libya, and the strengthening of ties between the House of Representatives and the Italian Parliament, including the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation.
According to Bleihaq, the Speaker of the House highlighted the importance of the Libyan-Turkish memorandum of understanding regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean—which was adopted and ratified by the House of Representatives—for the interests of the Libyan people. He emphasized that this is a sovereign decision and that it is the right of the Libyan state to safeguard its own interests, noting that Libyans are united on this matter and that the agreement does not infringe upon the interests of other nations.
For his part, the Consul General of the Italian Republic, Filippo Colombo, underscored the unique nature of the relationship between the two friendly countries and their peoples.
