Tripoli, October 22, 2026 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has emphasized the necessity of unifying the judiciary as a fundamental prerequisite for holding future national elections, and for ensuring legal certainty and institutional stability in the country.
The Mission stated that this was discussed during a meeting held yesterday, Wednesday, between the Prosecutor General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, and the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, during which the two sides reviewed the latest developments in Libya.
The discussions focused on the urgent importance of unifying the judiciary to ensure legal certainty and strengthen institutional stability, thereby helping to create the necessary conditions for holding future national elections, according to the Mission.
