Benghazi, October 21, 2026 (LANA) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Al-Salihin Abdul Nabi, emphasized the importance of the Libyan-Turkish memorandum of understanding regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean Sea, noting that it serves the interests of the Libyan people. He described this as a sovereign decision, asserting that the Libyan state has the right to safeguard its own interests. This came during his meeting on Wednesday in Benghazi with the Consul General of the Italian Republic, Filippo Colombo, and his accompanying delegation, who congratulated him on his election as Speaker of the House.

According to the official spokesperson for the House, Abdullah Bleihaq, the Speaker stated that the Libyan people are united on this matter, stressing that the agreement does not infringe upon the interests of other nations.

The Speaker also expressed his openness to engaging with all Libyans, without exception, with the goal of unifying state institutions and the country as a whole to overcome the current crisis.

The meeting addressed the historical bilateral relations between the two friendly nations and their shared interests—particularly in the economic sphere—as well as cooperation regarding the participation of Italian companies in the reconstruction of Libya. Furthermore, the discussion covered strengthening ties between the Libyan House of Representatives and the Italian Parliament, and enhancing parliamentary cooperation.

For his part, the Italian Consul General, Filippo Colombo, highlighted the unique nature of the relationship between the two friendly countries and their respective peoples.
