The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity welcomes the adoption of the maritime memorandum of understanding with Türkiye and the annulment of the 2020 decisions issued by the House of Representatives.

Tripoli, October 20, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity welcomed, on Tuesday, the House of Representatives’ unanimous adoption of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the State of Libya and the Republic of Türkiye regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean Sea.

In a statement published on its official page, the Ministry also welcomed the repeal of House of Representatives resolutions No. (1) and No. (6) of 2020, which had rejected the ratification of the two Memoranda of Understanding concluded between the two countries and called for the severance of political relations with the Republic of Türkiye.

The Ministry emphasized that this step represents a positive development toward strengthening bilateral relations between Libya and Türkiye, and consolidating joint cooperation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both nations.

It further noted that the adoption of the Memorandum would contribute to supporting stability and enhancing regional cooperation in the Mediterranean region, in accordance with the relevant rules and principles of international law.
