Tripoli, October 12, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, met today, Monday, with the Chinese Ambassador to Libya, Ma Xuliang, to discuss prospects for developing the strategic partnership and enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Media Office of the Head of the Presidential Council, the meeting addressed ways to develop the strategic partnership between the two friendly nations and build upon understandings reached in previous meetings. The discussion focused on bolstering cooperation in the economic, investment, and development sectors, as well as supporting the resumption of joint projects and expanding partnership opportunities in vital sectors.

The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the Libyan political landscape and efforts to advance the political process toward a comprehensive settlement that reinforces the unity, sovereignty, and stability of state institutions. Additionally, views were exchanged on various regional and international developments of mutual interest.

The Chinese Ambassador emphasized the strategic importance of Libya-China relations, affirming his country's aspiration to strengthen the bilateral partnership and expand the scope of joint cooperation. This includes the resumption of the Chinese Embassy’s operations in Libya and the accreditation of an ambassador—following a 15-year hiatus—as well as the return of Chinese companies to the Libyan market, all of which follows the meeting held between the Head of the Presidential Council and the Chinese President on the sidelines of the China-Africa Summit.

For his part, Al-Menfi underscored the importance of continued coordination with the People's Republic of China and the role of the bilateral partnership in supporting stability and development, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries and their friendly peoples.
