Tripoli – October 10, 2026 – (LANA) – Taher Al-Baour, the official in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, met today, Saturday, with Cheikh Niang, the Senegalese Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the African Group of Ten (G-10) ministerial meeting in Tripoli and attended by Alaa El-Din Al-Tajouri, Director of the African Affairs Department, focused on bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation and coordination across various areas of mutual interest.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity stated that the meeting addressed the latest developments on the African continent and emphasized the importance of strengthening joint African action and intensifying coordination among member states to confront the security, political, and economic challenges facing the region.

The two sides also discussed efforts to reactivate the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) and restore its role in fostering regional integration and cooperation among member states, thereby contributing to security, stability, and the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and irregular migration.

In this context, the Libyan side outlined the ongoing steps to finalize the institutional procedures necessary for the return of the Community’s Executive Secretariat to its original headquarters in Tripoli, reaffirming Libya's commitment to seeing the Community regain its active role within the framework of joint African action. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of holding the meeting of the grouping’s ministerial council in Tripoli this coming November. This meeting is viewed as a crucial step toward finalizing the arrangements necessary to reactivate the grouping’s institutions—paving the way for a summit of member states' heads of state and government—thereby bolstering regional integration and cooperation and fulfilling the aspirations of the region's peoples.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of continued consultation and coordination between the two countries, as well as support for initiatives aimed at strengthening African solidarity and consolidating security, stability, and development across the continent.
