Ashraf Mohamed Al-Taib meets with Pakistani Ambassador

Tripoli, October 9, 2026 (LANA) – Ashraf Mohamed Al-Taib, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met yesterday with Mumtaz Hussain, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Libya. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and expand its scope across various areas of mutual interest.

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, addressed Libyan-Pakistani relations, the importance of reactivating the joint committee between the two countries, and scheduling its 14th session in Islamabad, in addition to following up on the implementation of agreements signed by both sides.

The two parties also discussed the possibility of concluding memoranda of understanding regarding the avoidance of double taxation and the promotion and protection of investments. Furthermore, they considered a proposal to organize a Libyan-Pakistani economic forum in 2027 and to establish a joint chamber of commerce to support trade and investment exchange.

The meeting also touched upon leveraging Pakistani expertise in the fields of electricity, engineering, construction, and technology, as well as enhancing cooperation in the health sector and exchanging expertise and modern technologies.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation between relevant authorities, and of working to transform the proposed areas of cooperation into practical programs and projects that strengthen relations between the two countries and serve their mutual interests.
