Tripoli, October 8, 2026 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue engaging with the House of Representatives, its new presidium, and all its members.
In a statement posted on its official page this Thursday, the Mission announced it would continue working with the legislative body to advance the UN-facilitated political roadmap. This effort aims to unify institutions, implement urgent reforms, and hold elections within the timeframe stipulated in the agreement signed by the "mini-meeting" group on August 30.
The Mission emphasized its commitment to working with all relevant Libyan parties and international partners to achieve this goal.
The Mission noted that it had followed the two sessions of the House of Representatives held in Benghazi earlier this week. The first session, on October 5, was attended by 102 members; 98 of them voted to amend the House's internal regulations and approve a rotating presidency for the House, with a maximum term of 12 months. The Mission also took note of the second session held on October 6, attended by at least 111 members, during which a new presidium for the House was elected. The Mission acknowledges the election of Mr. Al-Sahin Abdul-Nabi as Speaker of the House, alongside the election of a new presidium.
