Tripoli, October 8, 2026 (LANA) – The capital, Tripoli, is hosting a meeting on October 10–11 for the ministers of the African Union’s Committee of Ten (C10) on UN Security Council reform. This event is part of ongoing African efforts to strengthen the continent's unified stance regarding Security Council reform and the pursuit of fair African representation.

Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher El-Sonni, announced that preparations for the ministerial meeting are underway. He noted that Libya and Sierra Leone—the latter serving as the C10 coordinator—co-chaired the final preparatory meeting, which focused on discussing the agenda and the draft "Tripoli 2026 Outcome Document."

In a post on the "X" platform on Wednesday evening, El-Sonni explained that the upcoming ministerial meeting in Tripoli reaffirms the unified African position on Security Council reform. He added that the meeting builds upon efforts led by Libya since the 2009 Sirte Declaration to promote equitable African representation and address what he described as the historical injustice inflicted upon the African continent.

According to El-Sonni, the meeting will focus on continuing African coordination regarding Security Council reform, as well as discussing and adopting the meeting's outcomes within the framework of the "Tripoli 2026 Outcome Document."
