Blihaq: Tariq Al-Ashtar elected First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Misbah Douma elected Second Deputy Speaker.

Benghazi, October 6, 2026 (LANA) – Members of the House of Representatives elected MP Tariq Al-Ashtar as First Deputy Speaker of the House with a majority of 63 votes, compared to 47 votes for MP Al-Siddiq Hammouda. This took place during a session held by the MPs today, Tuesday, in Benghazi to elect the leadership body, according to House spokesman Abdullah Bleihaq.

The session to elect the First Deputy Speaker proceeded to a second round after MP Tariq Al-Ashtar received 43 votes, MP Al-Siddiq Hammouda received 35 votes, and MP Izz al-Din Qawirib received 32 votes; consequently, the second round was contested between MPs Al-Ashtar and Hammouda.

During the session, the House also unanimously elected MP Misbah Douma as Second Deputy Speaker, according to Bleihaq.

Earlier today, members of the House of Representatives had elected Al-Salihin Abdul-Nabi as Speaker of the House.
