Tripoli, October 6, 2026 (LANA) – The General Teachers’ Union announced that it will suspend its sit-in starting tomorrow, Wednesday, following a meeting held today between Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdulhamid Dbeibah and the Teachers’ Union representing teachers across Libya, in the presence of Minister of Finance Rashed Abu Ghaffa.
The official spokesperson for the General Teachers’ Union said that Dbeibah made a number of decisions during the meeting, foremost among them the adoption of a unified salary scale for all sectors, to be implemented during the current month of October. He also decided to pay the teaching-period allowance to teachers for the current year following its referral by the Ministry of Education, while ensuring its continuity.
According to the union’s spokesperson, the decisions taken by the Prime Minister also include paying the allowances for school principals and deputy principals together with the October salary, issuing regulations to protect teachers, working to include teachers in the healthcare system, and calculating the outstanding salary differences under Law No. 4 to safeguard teachers’ rights and prevent them from being lost through the passage of time.
The spokesperson for the General Teachers’ Union confirmed that the meeting resulted in an agreement on a number of measures aimed at serving teachers and the educational process.
Earlier this evening, Dbeibah announced the resumption of the educational process starting tomorrow, following his meeting with the General Union of Teachers of Libya. He said the decision was based on the shared responsibility to ensure the stability of education and to affirm the priority of children’s right to education.
