In a Letter to (LANA), Repsol Oil Company Denies What It Describes as False Information Concerning Its General Manager Mikel Erkiaga Aguirre

Tripoli, October 6, 2026 (LANA) – Repsol Oil Company has denied what it described as false information and allegations concerning Mr. Mikel Erkiaga Aguirre, General Manager of Repsol Exploration Murzuq Sharara Assets LLC, known as “REMSA.”

In a letter addressed to (LANA), the company said that REMSA has been operating in Libya since 1994 in the field of oil and gas exploration and production, pursuant to exploration and production-sharing agreements concluded with Libya’s National Oil Corporation. The company and its directors are committed to the highest standards of transparency and compliance with the laws and regulations in force in Libya.

The company said in its letter that it categorically denies the information circulating concerning Mr. Mikel Erkiaga Aguirre, describing it as completely false and without any basis in fact. It stated that Mr. Erkiaga Aguirre has at all times performed his professional duties and responsibilities, and continues to do so, in full compliance with applicable laws and in accordance with the highest standards expected of someone holding his position. Furthermore, Repsol had previously stated publicly, in comments to the press, that these allegations were completely false.

The company confirmed that Mr. Erkiaga Aguirre subsequently left Libya on September 22, 2026, to attend external business engagements, as is customary and in accordance with the official procedures applicable in such cases. It said that he left the country through Mitiga International Airport, in accordance with a travel itinerary that had been arranged in advance.

REMSA said, in concluding its letter to (LANA), that in light of the above, it reiterates its complete rejection of the false and baseless allegations directed against Mr. Mikel Erkiaga Aguirre. The company also reaffirmed its full and ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and governance.
