Tripoli, October 5, 2026 (LANA) — Member of the Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Koni, visited the National Cardiac Center in Tajoura today, Monday, to review the workflow and medical services provided to patients.

During his meeting with the center’s management, Al-Koni stressed the importance of supporting medical and paramedical staff and providing the necessary resources, considering them a fundamental pillar for improving healthcare services and reducing the migration of medical professionals abroad.

Al-Koni emphasized the importance of settling the financial status of health sector workers and improving their salaries across various specialties, in a manner that reflects the scale of their responsibilities and enhances their professional stability. He noted that providing the necessary resources and budgets for medical centers, particularly those specializing in cardiac care, would help reduce waiting lists and ensure the continued and smooth provision of specialized medical services within Libya.

Al-Koni praised the efforts of the medical, paramedical, and technical staff at the center, stressing that healthcare workers perform a humanitarian mission directly connected to the lives of citizens. This requires providing them with an appropriate working environment and the resources needed to perform their duties efficiently.

The medical team presented an overview of the center’s key activities during the current year, including diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures, as well as open-heart surgeries for children and adults. The team also outlined its plan to eliminate waiting lists by the end of the year, provided that the necessary resources and budgets are made available.

Al-Koni also observed a number of cardiac catheterization procedures being performed on children and adults with the participation of a volunteer Turkish medical team. He praised the efforts being made and the benefit of specialized expertise in support of efforts to localize medical treatment within Libya.
