Libyan-Egyptian-Chadian Coordination to Boost Counterterrorism Cooperation and Activate CEN-SAD.

Tripoli, 5 October 2026 (Lana) The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, discussed with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Chadian Foreign Minister Ahmed Kougori ways to enhance coordination between Libya, Egypt, and Chad in combating terrorism and transnational organized crime, supporting security and stability in the Sahel and Sahara region, as well as efforts to activate the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) and resume the work of its institutions.
This came during a trilateral meeting held by the three ministers in Cairo, Egypt, yesterday, where they discussed a number of issues of common interest, including the security challenges facing the countries of the region and ways to enhance cooperation and consultation on political, security, and development issues.
According to the official page of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the ministers stressed the importance of reactivating CEN-SAD and benefiting from its capabilities, as well as strengthening cooperation among member states in the areas of peace and security, counterterrorism, and irregular migration, in addition to supporting security capacity-building efforts in a manner that contributes to addressing the common challenges facing the region.
The ministers agreed on the importance of working toward convening a CEN-SAD ministerial meeting as soon as possible, paving the way for a summit of heads of state and government, which would allow them to resume the activities of the organization’s institutions and enhance its effectiveness in supporting security and stability and promoting regional cooperation, according to the same source.
The meeting underscored the need to continue coordination and consultation among Libya, Egypt, and Chad on security, political, and development issues, in a way that strengthens the ability of the countries of the region to address common challenges and supports development and integration efforts among CEN-SAD member states.
