Oweidan and El-Sonni Discuss Strengthening the Presence of Libyan Water Issues in International Forums.

Tripoli, 5 October 2026 (Lana) GNU Minister of Water Resources, Hosni Oweidan, discussed with the Ambassador and Permanent of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, ways to support the Libyan water sector and strengthen its presence and priorities on the international forum.
This came during their meeting in New York, where they discussed the mechanisms for utilizing international cooperation channels to support the water sector and strengthening coordination between the Ministry of Water Resources and Libya’s Mission to the UN, in a way that serves water security and sustainable development issues in Libya.
The meeting also addressed the importance of expanding communication with international organizations and agencies and development partners, and benefiting from opportunities for international cooperation and partnership to support the priorities of the water sector, in addition to highlighting the challenges and needs facing the sector.
The two sides also stressed the importance of integrating efforts between national institutions and Libya’s Mission to the UN, in a way that strengthens Libya’s presence in international issues related to water and sustainable development and opens broader avenues for cooperation with relevant international institutions and organizations.
The meeting comes within the framework of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the area of water and build partnerships that contribute to supporting water security and sustainable development in Libya.
