Tripoli, September 30, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed today, Wednesday, with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, the latest political and security developments in Libya and efforts to advance the political process within the framework of the UN-sponsored roadmap.

During the meeting, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for UN efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive, Libyan-led political settlement. He emphasized the importance of the political process remaining Libyan-led and Libyan-owned, alongside pushing for the simultaneous holding of presidential and legislative elections, ending transitional phases, and unifying state institutions in a manner that preserves Libya's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

According to the official page of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Tetteh reviewed the latest developments regarding the implementation of the political roadmap and the steps currently being taken to address outstanding issues related to the constitutional and legal framework governing the elections.

The meeting also addressed ways to support the Libyan political track and integrate efforts aimed at creating the necessary conditions for holding national elections and unifying state institutions.

The meeting takes place amidst ongoing UN efforts to advance the political roadmap, which currently focuses on finalizing the formation of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) board and introducing necessary amendments to the electoral framework, in preparation for completing the required political milestones.
