Tripoli, September 29, 2026 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has called upon civil society organizations and community leaders across the country to hold public meetings regarding the recommendations of the "Structured Dialogue," with the aim of translating them into reality.

The UN mission noted that these meetings aim to raise public awareness among Libyans about the Structured Dialogue’s recommendations and outcomes, and to discuss ways to support their implementation. To facilitate these meetings, the mission has prepared a downloadable toolkit comprising a facilitator’s guide and three informational booklets.

The mission explained that the recommendations address short- and long-term challenges facing the country in the areas of governance, security, the economy, national reconciliation, and human rights. They are the product of six months of deliberations (January to June) involving approximately 120 Libyan men and women from municipalities, political parties, universities, technical and security institutions, and various societal groups—including women, youth, and persons with disabilities. These recommendations were formulated based on public engagement through online surveys and community-led meetings, reflecting a Libyan-led process aimed at supporting long-term stability, establishing effective institutions, and ensuring inclusive participation.

The mission indicated that these meetings focus on identifying practical measures that can help implement the recommendations on the ground. The Mission hopes that community actors and civil society representatives will organize and facilitate these important discussions, and share their views and observations via an online form available on the Mission’s website.

On its official page, the Mission quoted Stephanie Koury, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, as saying: "It is important that the voices of Libyans guide the next steps, helping to steer advocacy efforts, shape implementation mechanisms, and assist in translating the shared national vision into tangible progress for communities across Libya."
