Boulos: Washington Supports Reunifying Libya’s Institutions and a Path to National Elections.

Tripoli, 29 September 2026 (Lana), U.S. Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos said that Washington’s efforts on Libya are focused on reunifying state institutions and advancing a path toward national elections.
“Appreciated the opportunity to speak with regional and international media on Thursday about President Trump’s efforts to advance peace and unlock new opportunities for stability and prosperity across the Middle East and Africa,” Boulos said in a tweet.
He stated that discussions covered progress made in the process of reunifying Libyan institutions, in addition to efforts to develop a path leading to national elections.
Boulos’ statements come amid ongoing U.S. and international efforts to support the unification of Libyan state institutions and advance the political process toward elections, where Boulos has previously affirmed Washington’s support for Libyan and UN efforts in this direction.
Boulos also noted that the discussions addressed diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a lasting solution to the Western Sahara issue, in addition to securing a humanitarian truce and supporting peace efforts in Sudan.
He added that the talks also discussed support for lasting peace in the Great Lakes region and efforts to enhance stability in Ethiopia.
