UNSMIL Human Rights Team Meets with the National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights in Benghazi.

Benghazi, 28 September 2026 (Lana) The Human Rights, Transitional Justice, and Rule of Law Service of UNSMIL met the National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights at its Benghazi office yesterday.
The meeting with the Deputy Head of the Council and her team discussed the Council’s current priorities and targeted needs and areas for further cooperation, within the framework of UNSMIL’s engagement with national human rights institutions and in accordance with the Paris Principles.
The meeting also covered key human rights issues, urgent concerns, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation on human rights protection, the rule of law, and national human rights mechanisms in Libya.
The Council also facilitated constructive meetings with the authorities in Benghazi, notably the Military Prosecutor, the General Prosecutor, the Chief of the Judicial Police, and the National Committee for Monitoring the Conditions of Prisons and Detainees, where they discussed recent human rights developments and concerns, including the situation of detainees and the recent resumption of executions.
