Al-Menfi Receives the Secretary-General of the Arab League in New York.

New York, 23 September 2026 (Lana) President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, received on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Libyan Mission in New York, Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy.

The meeting, which Al-Menfi opened by congratulating Fahmy on assuming the position of Secretary-General, addressed a number of issues and files related to developments in the Arab region, as well as the latest developments in the Libyan scene, in addition to ways to strengthen joint Arab action in addressing the current challenges.

The two sides discussed paths for advancing a political settlement to the Libyan crisis based on full Libyan ownership and grounded in consensus and dialogue among the parties concerned, away from any external interference or dictates, which would help create a conducive environment for ending the transitional stages and holding free, fair, and simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, in accordance with an agreed constitutional and legal framework.

Al-Menfi stressed the importance of the role played by the Arab League in supporting stability in Libya, backing efforts aimed at bringing Libyan parties' views closer together, and strengthening the path of national consensus in a manner that preserves the country's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He also stressed the need to enhance the effectiveness of joint Arab action and unify efforts in addressing the crises and challenges facing the region in a way that contributes to consolidating security and stability, supporting development efforts, and safeguarding shared Arab interests.
