Al-Menfi meets Erdogan in New York and discusses the latest political developments in Libya

New York, September 21, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, met today, Monday, in New York with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They discussed the latest political developments in Libya, bilateral relations, and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries across various fields.
Both sides emphasized the importance of advancing the political process to end the state of division and transitional phases, and of creating the appropriate conditions for holding comprehensive presidential and parliamentary elections. This aims to re-establish legitimacy based on the popular will, unify state institutions, and achieve lasting stability, according to the Media Office of the Head of the Presidential Council.
The meeting underscored the necessity for the political process to be Libyan-owned and Libyan-led—free from external interference or dictates—in a manner that preserves Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and independent national decision-making, while ensuring inclusive participation without exclusion or marginalization.
Furthermore, both sides affirmed the importance of continued coordination and consultation, as well as strengthening cooperative and partnership relations between Libya and Turkey, to serve the mutual interests of the two friendly peoples.
