Al-Baour discusses strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Libya's bid for the Security Council with the Finnish Foreign Minister.

New York, September 21, 2026 (LANA) – Taher Al-Baour, the official in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, met on Monday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Elina Valtonen, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and develop areas of joint cooperation between the two countries.
The Ministry stated on its official page that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
It explained that the meeting addressed the exchange of support regarding candidacies for membership in the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term, in the context of Finland’s previously announced bid for the seat allocated to the European regional group, alongside Libya’s bid for a non-permanent seat during the same term.
According to the Ministry, the meeting also reviewed the latest developments regarding the situation in Libya and the region, ways to support the political process and enhance security and stability, and the importance of continued coordination between the two countries within the UN framework on issues and matters of mutual interest.
