Barghash Discusses with Russian Ambassador Strengthening Sports Cooperation and Expanding Areas of Partnership Between the Two Countries

Tripoli – September 20, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Sports in the Government of National Unity, Fouad Barghash, discussed today at the ministry’s headquarters with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Libya, Haider Aghanin, ways to strengthen and develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of sports, open new avenues for partnership, and promote the mutual exchange of sports expertise and capabilities.

The minister welcomed the Russian ambassador, emphasizing the Ministry of Sports’ commitment to developing sports cooperation with the Russian Federation and expanding areas of coordination and exchange in a manner that serves the sports sector and enhances opportunities to develop national skills and capabilities.

For his part, the Russian ambassador expressed his appreciation for the relations between Libya and Russia and the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect upon which they are based. He expressed his desire to expand these relations to include the sports sector and establish practical avenues for cooperation and the exchange of expertise between sports institutions in the two countries.

The meeting addressed several proposed areas of cooperation, including organizing specialized courses and training programs in administrative, technical, and refereeing fields, as well as improving the capabilities of sports personnel. The two sides also discussed the possibility of benefiting from Russian facilities and expertise in hosting Libyan teams and national squads for training camps, contributing to the development of preparation programs and enhancing their level of readiness.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of establishing an institutional framework for sports cooperation between the two countries by working toward preparing and signing agreements and memoranda of understanding governing areas of joint cooperation and laying the foundation for a sustainable sports partnership that serves Libya’s sports sector.
