AU Peace and Security Committee Concludes Meetings in Burundi with Participation of Defense Ministry Delegation.

Gitega, September 20, 2026 (Lana) A delegation from the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Libyan Army, headed by Chief of the Air Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Balouq, concluded its participation in the 18th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Defense, Safety and Security, hosted by the Republic of Burundi from September 15 to 18.
According to the General Staff of the Libyan Army on its official Facebook page, the meetings discussed a number of cross-border challenges and threats, as well as ways to support peace and stability and enhance cooperation in the areas of defense and security at the regional and continental levels.
Burundi assumed the chairmanship of the Committee’s Bureau, while Libya held the position of Third Vice-Chair of the Bureau, as part of its participation in the work of the Committee and African Union mechanisms concerned with defense, peace, and security.
