The Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Unity condemns the Houthi attempt to target Mecca with a drone

Tripoli, September 16, 2026 (LANA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity has condemned the attempt to target Makkah Al-Mukarramah with a drone launched by the Houthi group.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry affirmed Libya’s categorical rejection of any attempts to target the Qibla of Muslims or violate the sanctity of the holy sites and their deeply rooted religious significance for all Muslims.

The Ministry reiterated Libya’s steadfast position of support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, backing all measures and actions taken to ensure the protection of the Two Holy Mosques, safeguard the Kingdom’s security and stability, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation called upon the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to uphold international peace and security, respect the sanctity of holy sites, and prevent the recurrence of such acts that threaten security and stability in the region.
