Tripoli, September 16, 2026 (LANA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the House of Representatives' endorsement of the agreement reached by the "4+4" subcommittee—signed on August 30—viewing it as a significant step toward moving matters forward and contributing to efforts to overcome the current political stalemate in Libya.

Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, stated that the House of Representatives' approval of the agreement represents "an important step to move things forward," contributing to efforts to resolve the ongoing political deadlock in Libya. This was reported in a press briefing shared today, Wednesday, by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) via its official Facebook page.

UNSMIL reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process aimed at breaking the political impasse, as well as unifying and strengthening national institutions.

The Mission emphasized that its efforts also aim to create the necessary conditions for holding inclusive and credible parliamentary and presidential elections, in line with the aspirations of the Libyan people.
