Tripoli, September 15, 2026 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the House of Representatives' endorsement of the "mini-meeting" agreement—signed on August 30—during the Council's session yesterday in Benghazi, presided over by Speaker Aguila Saleh.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the UN mission also welcomed the joint statement previously released by 103 MPs, affirming that this support represents a significant step forward.

The mission stated that the broad support for the small-group meeting agreement underscores the importance of advancing along a consensus-based path that leads to the holding of national elections.

According to the mission, the small-group meeting is a key component of the broader UN-facilitated political roadmap; by successfully addressing the first two fundamental steps of the political process, it contributes to efforts aimed at overcoming the current political impasse.

The mission reiterated its commitment to supporting and facilitating a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process to end the political stalemate, unify and strengthen national institutions, and create favorable conditions for holding inclusive and credible parliamentary and presidential elections that meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
