Al-Menfi Discusses Developments in Libya’s Political Scene with French Ambassador

Tripoli, 14 September 2026 (LANA) – President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, met in Tripoli on Monday with the French Ambassador to Libya, Thierry Vallat, to discuss developments in the Libyan political scene and progress in efforts aimed at ending the transitional phases and strengthening stability in the country.

The French ambassador formally informed Al-Menfi of the opening of the French Consulate in the city of Benghazi, a step that reflects France’s strengthened diplomatic presence in Libya and the expansion of channels of communication with different regions, according to the media office of the Presidential Council.

For his part, Al-Menfi welcomed the move, reaffirming his support for the return and opening of diplomatic missions and consulates in various Libyan cities, in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations, facilitating communication, and serving citizens.

During the meeting, Al-Menfi also reiterated his commitment to full Libyan ownership of any political settlement or agreement, stressing that ending the division and consolidating stability require an inclusive national process that enjoys Libyan acceptance, away from arrangements imposed by narrow interests or those that reproduce the country’s divisions.

The President of the Presidential Council reaffirmed his support for all political tracks and efforts aimed at bringing the transitional phases to an end through a comprehensive political settlement that creates the appropriate conditions for holding presidential and parliamentary elections on the basis of a clear constitutional and legal framework. Such a process, he said, should lead to a sustainable democratic transition that strengthens the legitimacy of state institutions and unifies national decision-making.
