Tripoli, September 14, 2026 (LANA) – Al-Taher Al-Baour, the official in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, met on Monday with Georgette Gagnon—Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya—to discuss various matters regarding cooperation between Libya and the United Nations.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, addressed the status of UN agencies operating in Libya and the coordination mechanisms between them and state institutions to ensure the performance of their duties within established frameworks.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance the protection of UN missions, agencies, and personnel, as well as how to improve coordination between relevant Libyan authorities and the UN to foster a secure environment enabling international missions and organizations to continue their humanitarian and development work across the country.
The meeting underscored the importance of continued consultation and coordination between Libya and the United Nations on issues of mutual interest, thereby supporting efforts toward stability and development in the country.
