Committee Monitoring Rising Water Levels in Zliten Municipality Discusses Proposed Solutions to Lower Water Levels and Address the Problem

Tripoli, September 13, 2026 (LANA) – Minister of Water Resources Husni Oweidan chaired today, Sunday, the first meeting of the committee tasked with monitoring the phenomenon of rising water levels in Zliten Municipality.

During the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Water Resources in Tripoli, the minister stressed the Prime Minister’s Office’s اهتمام with the rising water levels in Zliten Municipality and its commitment to working toward appropriate solutions to address the problem, given its health, environmental, and social impacts. He noted that attention to municipalities stems from their role as the state’s primary foundation.

The meeting heard presentations from committee members representing Zliten Municipality and the Ministry of Water Resources. It also discussed and reviewed the technical aspects related to recommendations and proposed solutions for lowering water levels and addressing the phenomenon.

The meeting further considered proposals to make use of the water resulting from water-level reduction operations through specialized systems for producing desalinated and sterilized water, thereby allowing it to be utilized in accordance with approved technical and health standards.

It is worth noting that the committee was established pursuant to Resolution No. (80) of 2026, concerning the follow-up of the implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. (506) of 2026, relating to the approval of hydrological studies to monitor the rising water levels in Zliten Municipality.
