Tripoli – September 13, 2026 – (LANA) – The Head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, discussed the Bureau’s oversight role in supporting transparency and accountability with Jeremy Berndt, Senior Advisor for Libyan Political Affairs at the U.S. State Department, and Inga Heemink, Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Libya.

The Audit Bureau stated that the meeting addressed the importance of unifying and rationalizing public spending, improving financial resource management efficiency, and strengthening fiscal discipline. Discussions also covered the Bureau’s oversight role in fostering transparency and accountability, as well as the importance of maintaining its independence and impartiality.

Both sides emphasized the importance of developing oversight operations in accordance with international standards and modern professional practices.
