Dbeibah meets Jeremy Berndt

Tripoli – September 13, 2026 – (LANA) – Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, met on Sunday with Jeremy Berndt, Senior Policy Advisor for Libya Affairs at the U.S. State Department. They discussed the latest political and economic developments, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest.

According to the Media Office of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, the meeting addressed developments in the political track and Libyan efforts to create the necessary conditions for holding elections. Key topics included the outcomes of the "4+4 Committee"—tasked with preparing the legal framework for elections—the reconstitution of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), the importance of building upon established Libyan consensuses, and the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in backing this process.

Regarding the economy, discussions focused on the unified development spending agreement and the necessity of fully adhering to its provisions and various aspects. The aim is to consolidate a unified path for development spending, enhance discipline, transparency, and the equitable distribution of resources, and maintain financial and economic stability.

The meeting also addressed the situation of the oil sector and ways to support the National Oil Corporation (NOC), enhancing its capacity to perform its duties. This aims to ensure production stability and efficient sector management based on professional and transparent principles.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation on issues of mutual interest, as well as supporting national efforts to achieve stability and successfully hold elections.
