Sirte, September 9, 2026 (LANA) – The first joint meeting of the chiefs of staff for the Air Force, Navy, and Air Defense—representing both the eastern and western regions—concluded this Wednesday evening in Sirte. This move aims to affirm state sovereignty and advance ongoing efforts to unify the military institution.
During the meeting, the chiefs of staff discussed ways to enhance cooperation and integration across various military sectors, prioritizing issues related to strengthening state sovereignty. A joint action program was agreed upon, with each branch’s staff command tasked with developing its own implementation plan to execute the program's objectives.
The action plan covers training and maneuvers—specifically through coordinating joint military exercises and tactical projects to improve field performance—as well as cooperation in armament, the modernization of weapons and equipment, and the exchange of expertise and mutual utilization of capabilities between the forces.
The attendees also agreed to strengthen coordination on logistical matters, including the exchange of spare parts and the securing of necessary military supplies, alongside sharing expertise and coordinating military training and qualification programs through specialized military colleges and schools.
Furthermore, the participants decided to continue holding coordination meetings involving other bodies, departments, and staff commands in the coming period. They emphasized that these steps reflect a genuine national desire to build a unified military institution capable of protecting the country and safeguarding its resources and sovereignty. This meeting is being held to implement the outcomes of the previous meeting of Chiefs of General Staff—convened in Sirte last July and attended by General Khaled Khalifa Haftar and General Dr. Salah Al-Namroush—which resulted in several measures aimed at enhancing military cooperation and coordination.
In accordance with the agreements reached, the city of Sirte is set to host monthly meetings involving various departments, bodies, and specialized staff commands.
