Tripoli, September 8, 2026 (LANA) – Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, discussed challenges facing the Fezzan region today, Tuesday, with members of the Fezzan Forum. These challenges include representation, infrastructure development, border security, and migration.

According to the UN mission, discussions focused on issues facing Fezzan—such as representation, infrastructure, border security, migration, youth participation, and the inclusion of Fezzan’s voices in the political process. The delegation emphasized Fezzan’s historic role in fostering cohesion among Libyans.

Khoury reviewed progress made on the UN-facilitated political roadmap, including the agreement on the "mini-meeting." She stressed the importance of advancing the political process toward holding national elections, unifying state institutions, and addressing critical priorities to achieve stability.

Khoury reiterated the mission's commitment to engaging with all segments of the Fezzan region and ensuring that diverse Libyan perspectives are reflected in efforts to reach a sustainable political solution.

The UN mission stated that this meeting is part of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya’s (UNSMIL) ongoing engagement with various Libyan parties.
