Tripoli, 8 September 2026 (Lana) The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, linked achieving political stability in Libya to the economic situation and citizens’ trust in institutions that manage public resources with transparency and accountability.
Tetteh made the remarks yesterday during her participation, alongside her deputy Stephanie Koury and the UN Resident Coordinator in Libya, Ulrika Richardson, in the opening of the 2026 Arab Conference on Savings and Financial Literacy in Tripoli, hosted by the Central Bank of Libya and bringing together policymakers, financial institutions, development partners, and experts from across North Africa and the Middle East.
Tetteh stressed the close link between political stability and Libya’s economic future, noting that building public trust requires credible institutions that manage resources transparently and accountably, as well as an economy that provides broader access to financial services and economic opportunities for all Libyans.
She explained that expanding access to financial services and promoting financial literacy and digital financial services would help enable more Libyans across the country to participate in the formal economy, make informed financial decisions, and benefit from Libya’s economic potential.
Tetteh reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting Libyan institutions in building a more transparent, inclusive, and resilient economy that delivers tangible results benefiting all Libyans.
