Dbeibah directs that priority be given to areas experiencing water shortages

Tripoli, September 7, 2026 (LANA) – Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity stressed the need to provide the necessary resources to the Great Man-Made River Project Authority and the General Water Company, and to address priority issues, giving precedence to areas experiencing water shortages.

This came during an expanded meeting he held on Monday to review the situation of the Great Man-Made River Project Authority and the General Water and Sanitation Company, to assess the progress of work and the needs related to providing water and improving sanitation services in various regions.

Dbeibah emphasized the importance of monitoring technical work to ensure the stability of the system and improve the efficiency of services provided to citizens.

Officials from the Great Man-Made River Project Authority reviewed the technical and operational status of the system, water supply levels, and the condition of the recharge wells in Jabal al-Hasawna, Tazerbo, Sarir, and Kufra, in addition to the wells that are out of service or inoperable, and the technical procedures necessary to bring them back online.

For its part, the General Water and Sanitation Company presented its operational status and its needs for implementing development projects within its purview, which would support its ability to improve water and sanitation services and respond to the needs of different regions.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs, Mohamed Ben Ghalbon; the Director of the Inspection and Follow-up Department at the Cabinet Office, Khalifa Shaliq; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Water and Sanitation Company, Rafiq Abulsin; the Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Great Man-Made River Project Authority, Ahmed Al-Deeb; and several committee members.
