Al-Baour, During Meeting with Abdelatty: Libya’s Stability and Security Are Directly Linked to Respect for Its Sovereignty and Independent National Decision-Making

CAIRO, September 7, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, stressed that Libya’s stability and security are directly linked to respect for its sovereignty and independent national decision-making.

Al-Baour made the remarks during his meeting today, Monday, in Cairo with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, on the sidelines of the 166th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of foreign ministers.

Al-Baour affirmed Libya’s rejection of any foreign interference or attempts to impose solutions or arrangements that are inconsistent with the will and aspirations of the Libyan people. He highlighted the importance of supporting efforts aimed at unifying state institutions, strengthening security and stability, creating favorable conditions to end the transitional phases, and moving toward a stable and sustainable political phase.

Al-Baour also stressed the importance of support from the international community and Arab countries for the Libyan political process in a manner that preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, strengthens Libyan ownership of the political process, and ensures that solutions emerge from Libyan national consensus, away from foreign disputes and interference.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Libya’s stability, unity, and sovereignty, as well as its commitment to continuing coordination and consultations with the Libyan side in a manner that supports the political process, contributes to achieving security and stability, and facilitates the completion of national milestones. He also stressed the importance of preserving the unity of Libyan state institutions and the country’s territorial integrity.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting also addressed bilateral relations between Libya and Egypt and ways to strengthen and develop joint cooperation in various fields in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries and their brotherly peoples. The two sides also discussed a number of issues and topics of common interest, as well as regional and international developments.

Al-Baour reviewed the latest developments in Libya and developments related to the political process, stressing that the current phase requires unifying national efforts, supporting Libyan institutions, moving forward with the completion of political milestones, and holding free and fair national elections that consolidate legitimacy and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people to build a stable and unified state.

The two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultations on issues of common interest and to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a manner that reflects the depth of the historic relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples, while supporting security and stability in Libya and the region.
