Al-Namroush Discusses with Tetteh Support for Steps to Unify the Military Institution

Tripoli, September 2, 2026 (LANA) – Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Dr. “Salah al-Din al-Namroush,” met today, Wednesday, with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya, “Hanna Tetteh,” to discuss steps toward unifying the military institution.

According to the General Staff, the meeting addressed ways to support the implementation of the steps emerging from the recent Sirte meeting, which aim to lay the foundations for a unified military institution. The two sides also discussed mechanisms for supporting these efforts during the next phase in a manner that contributes to moving toward practical steps to unify the military institution.

The meeting reviewed the outcomes and recommendations of the meetings of the Joint Military Commission (5+5), as well as the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the international community in supporting the process of unifying Libyan institutions, foremost among them the military institution, in a way that strengthens security and stability and supports the unity of the country.
