Guterres welcomes the signing of the mini-meeting agreement and calls on the Libyan parties to engage in its implementation

New York, September 1, 2026 (LANA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the signing of the mini-meeting agreement in Libya on Sunday, which addresses the first two phases of the UN Support Mission in Libya’s political roadmap: the restructuring of the High National Elections Commission and resolving outstanding issues within the legal framework for presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said that this agreement represents an important step forward in Libya towards holding national elections and ending the transitional phase, according to UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
Guterres called on all relevant Libyan actors and institutions to engage in good faith to make progress in implementing this agreement, which demonstrates that progress can be achieved through dialogue.
