Aguila Saleh Affirms His Commitment to Consensus Reached, Provided It Falls Within the Framework of the Constitutional Declaration and Political Agreement

Pulbished on:

Benghazi – August 30, 2026 (LANA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives, “Aguila Saleh,” affirmed on Sunday his support for all initiatives and efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement, and his engagement with all initiatives based on concern for the national interest. He expressed his thanks and welcomed the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), through the efforts being made to end the state of division and reach simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

In a statement, he explained that when the matter is presented to the House of Representatives, the House will take whatever action it deems appropriate in a manner that serves the public interest and preserves the stability of the state and its institutions. He affirmed his readiness to engage positively with anything that could contribute to ending the state of political and institutional division, overcoming the current crisis, and reaching understandings and consensus that would lead to the formation of a unified authority, the unification of state institutions, and the creation of suitable conditions to move forward with the electoral process. This, he said, would bring an end to transitional phases and pave the way for Libyans to choose those who represent them through free and fair elections.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives affirmed his commitment to any understandings and consensus reached with the aim of ending the division and achieving stability, provided that such understandings remain within the framework of the Constitutional Declaration, applicable legislation, and the Political Agreement, and do not conflict with them. This, he said, would ensure the soundness of the political process, preserve the unity of the state and its institutions, and place Libya’s higher national interest above all considerations.
