The EU Delegation and diplomatic missions welcome the signing of the 4+4 Mini-Dialogue Committee agreement

Tripoli – August 30, 2026 (LANA) – The European Union Delegation and the diplomatic missions of EU member states in Libya welcomed on Sunday the signing of the agreement by the 4+4 Joint Military Commission.

The EU Delegation and the European Union Missions in Libya issued a statement welcoming the agreement signed today by Libyan representatives participating in the UN-facilitated mini-meeting on the restructuring of the High National Elections Commission's board and the electoral framework.

The statement explained that this agreement represents an important step towards unifying institutions and creating the conditions for holding fair national elections. It commended the Libyan participants for their constructive approach, political responsibility, and willingness to find common ground in the national interest.

The statement called on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to engage positively with the outcomes of the mini-meeting and to take the necessary steps to implement them without delay. It also called on all Libyan institutions and stakeholders to seize this opportunity to build on the progress achieved and embrace consensus to move the country towards restoring legitimacy and institutional unity.

The EU Delegation and the EU Missions in Libya reaffirmed their full support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, to facilitate a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process. A true Libyan, affirming their support for Libya and its people in support of the country's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
