Libyan-Syrian Talks in Tripoli to Strengthen Relations

Tripoli, August 30, 2026 (LANA) – The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met today, Sunday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, to discuss ways to strengthen Libyan-Syrian relations and develop joint cooperation, in addition to a number of issues of common interest.

According to the official page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation headquarters in Tripoli, addressed the procedures related to reopening the Syrian Arab Republic's embassy in the capital, which will enhance diplomatic communication and contribute to addressing the affairs of Libyan citizens and developing bilateral cooperation.

The two sides also discussed finalizing the procedures for activating the Libyan-Syrian Joint Higher Committee and signing the agreement regulating its work, which will open broader horizons for cooperation in economic, developmental, and other areas of common interest.

The talks affirmed the shared commitment to strengthening the fraternal and historical relations between Libya and Syria, and to elevating the level of coordination and cooperation to serve the common interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples.

Earlier on Sunday, Al-Baour received the Syrian minister and his accompanying delegation at Mitiga International Airport. The delegation is visiting Libya on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation between the two countries.
