Al-Lafi: The People Are Tired of Temporary Solutions and Want Their Right to Choose Their Rulers
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, August 30, 2026 (LANA) – Walid Al-Lafi, head of the Government of National Unity delegation to the National Dialogue Committee (4+4), affirmed that addressing Libya's crises will remain incomplete until legitimacy is restored to its fundamental source: the will of the people and the ballot box.
Speaking during the signing of the mini-meeting agreement today, Sunday, in Tripoli, Al-Lafi stated that the current phase is not an opportunity for adjusting gains and concessions or searching for winners and losers. He pointed out that the greatest loser from the consequences of the absence of institutions with solid legitimacy is the nation itself.
He added that the continued absence of legitimacy will leave solutions incomplete, crises unresolved, and hopes postponed, emphasizing that the will of the people and the ballot box represent the origin and source of legitimacy.
Al-Lafi called on all bodies and parties to support the electoral process and pave the way for it, considering the agreement a positive step towards reviving a process that has been stalled for years.
He emphasized that the Libyan people are tired of temporary solutions, initiatives that never reach a conclusion, and maneuvers that waste time, and that they want their natural right to change, renewal, and to choose their leaders.
