Following his meeting with Dbeibah, Orlando reaffirms the European Union’s continued support for the political process and strengthening Libya’s unity

Tripoli, August 26, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the European Union Mission to Libya, Nicola Orlando, stressed the importance of continuing to support the UN-sponsored political process, building on the outcomes of the “mini-conference” and international efforts aimed at moving Libya toward holding national elections, renewing the legitimacy of its institutions, and strengthening national unity.
This came in a post published by Orlando on his account on the X platform following his meeting today with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, at the conclusion of his tenure as Head of the European Union Mission to Libya.
Orlando noted that the meeting discussed continuing to deepen the partnership between the European Union and Libya, as well as progress made in a number of areas of mutual interest.
He praised the efforts of the Government of National Unity aimed at unifying the national budget, enhancing transparency and accountability, supporting economic and social development, and contributing to the national dialogue and efforts to reunify state institutions.
He affirmed the European Union’s readiness to continue supporting Libya in all areas of mutual interest, expressing his gratitude to the Prime Minister and members of his government for the dialogue, cooperation, and openness they demonstrated toward the European Union during his tenure.
At the conclusion of his service in Libya, Orlando expressed his wishes for an even deeper partnership between the European Union and Libya, and for the Libyan people to succeed in building a future characterized by stability, unity, prosperity, and peace.
