Tripoli, August 25, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed that broad consensus on the High National Elections Commission and the legal framework governing elections is essential for advancing Libya towards holding national elections, restoring its legitimacy, and strengthening national unity and stability.

This came in a tweet by Orlando on Tuesday, following his meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, where they discussed the latest developments related to the political roadmap, including what he described as encouraging progress in the mini-summit negotiations.

Orlando explained that inclusivity and sustained institutional and international support are two essential elements for the success of this national endeavor.

He said: “We stressed the importance of all stakeholders setting aside their partisan interests and contributing sincerely to achieving these shared goals.”

Orlando expressed the European Union's sincere gratitude, and his own personal appreciation, to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and her team for their efforts to support peace, unity, and prosperity in Libya and the region, wishing her continued success in this work.
