Sirte, August 25, 2026 (LANA) – A source at the Gulf Steam Power Plant in Sirte confirmed on Tuesday that technicians have begun charging the plant in preparation for its restart and connection to the national grid within the next few hours.

The source explained to a correspondent from the Libyan News Agency (LANA) that the startup process will take approximately two hours or more before the plant is connected to the national electricity grid.

The source attributed the shutdown of the generating units to high humidity levels today, which caused problems with the Misrata-Sirte and Misrata-Gulf power transmission lines that supply the Gulf Steam Power Plant in Sirte.

He indicated that the return of the plant's generating units to the national grid will contribute to restoring electricity to the Sirte region, which has been completely cut off since dawn today.

LANA has learned that electricity has already begun to be restored to the Al-Thalathin, Wadi Jarif, and Al-Qubaybah areas west of Sirte, following the restart of the steam power plant.
