GECOL: Maintenance teams are working around the clock to address network issues and reduce load shedding hours.

Tripoli, August 20, 2026 (LANA) – The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) affirmed its continued efforts to address electrical grid malfunctions and restore operational balance, which will gradually contribute to reducing load shedding hours and improving electricity supply across various regions.

In a televised press statement, company spokesperson Wiam Al-Taeb explained that company teams have begun repair work and are working around the clock to address faults and overcome obstacles. He emphasized that the company will continue to perform its duties with utmost professionalism and responsibility, while keeping citizens fully informed about the actual status of the grid.

In his statement, published today, Thursday, on the company's official page, Al-Taeb called on citizens to cooperate with the company's teams and enable them to carry out their work. He also urged them to support efforts to protect power stations, control centers, and network facilities from any attacks or interference that might hinder maintenance and repair work.

He noted that company employees face difficult conditions and field risks while carrying out maintenance and power restoration work, stressing that the company has made significant sacrifices to maintain the stability of the grid.

The company mourned the loss of one of its employees who passed away in recent hours, offering condolences to his family and colleagues. The company affirmed that its employees would continue performing their field duties and working to overcome the current challenges, achieve a more stable electricity grid, and improve service levels for citizens.
