Aguila Saleh discusses with Al-Shawabkeh the establishment of the permanent headquarters of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council in the city of Benghazi

Benghazi, August 20, 2026 (LANA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the Afro-Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Aguila Saleh, met yesterday, Wednesday, in Qubba with the Secretary-General of the Assembly, Fayez Al-Shawabkeh, to discuss the outcomes of the Afro-Asian Parliamentary Assembly's General Secretariat meeting, which was held in recent days, as well as several other matters related to the Assembly's work.

The meeting, which was also attended by the Head of the House of Representatives' Office, Abdullah Al-Masri Al-Fadhil, Parliamentary Affairs Advisor Ahmed Hashash, and Hussam Al-Nuaimat from the General Secretariat, addressed draft bylaws and resolutions pertaining to the Assembly.

According to a press statement by the House of Representatives spokesperson, both sides agreed to invite the heads of Asian and African parliaments and councils to nominate their representatives to the Executive Council, in preparation for its first meeting.

The meeting also discussed the procedures and steps related to establishing the permanent headquarters of the Afro-Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Benghazi, according to the same source.
