El-Sisi Affirms Egypt’s Support for Libya’s Stability, Unification of Institutions, and Holding of Parliamentary and Presidential Elections

Cairo, August 19, 2026 (LANA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s firm position on Libya, based on the need to preserve Libya’s unity, work toward unifying Libyan institutions, and hold parliamentary and presidential elections.
This came during his meeting today, Wednesday, with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, in the presence of Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Libyan National Army; Engineer Qasim Haftar, Director of the Libya Reconstruction Fund; and Minister Hassan Rashad, Head of the General Intelligence Service, according to the Egyptian Presidency.
Official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Mohamed El-Shenawy, said that President El-Sisi welcomed Field Marshal Haftar’s visit to Egypt, stressing the depth of the fraternal relations between Egypt and Libya and the importance of strengthening the historic ties between the two brotherly countries.
El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s steadfast support for Libya’s security and stability, as well as its support for initiatives in this regard, and its commitment to achieving security, development and prosperity in Libya while ensuring its unity and territorial integrity.
According to the official spokesperson, the meeting also addressed opportunities for joint cooperation between the two countries in a manner that strengthens their fruitful partnership.
The official spokesperson said that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar expressed his appreciation for his visit to Egypt, commending the significant efforts it is making to support peace, security and stability in the region in general and in Libya in particular. He affirmed his support for initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability in Libya and preserving its unity, noting his keenness to continue coordination with Egypt to address various common challenges and achieve comprehensive development in Libya.
