Al-Menfi discusses the political situation in Libya and the unification of the military institution with the French president's envoy

Tripoli, August 19, 2026 (LANA) – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, received the French President's Special Envoy to Libya, Paul Soler, at the Council's headquarters in Tripoli on Wednesday.

According to the Presidential Council's media office, the French envoy conveyed to Al-Manfi the greetings of French President Emmanuel Macron, emphasizing his country's commitment to further developing Libyan-French relations and strengthening joint cooperation in various fields to serve the mutual interests of the two friendly nations.

The meeting addressed several priority political and economic issues, most notably the process of unifying state institutions, the overall economic situation, and ways to enhance economic cooperation between Libya and France, including exploring the possibility of establishing a direct economic route between Tripoli and Paris.

The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the Libyan political situation, along with the Presidential Council's tripartite vision and initiative aimed at advancing the political process through direct and effective Libyan dialogue, leading to sustainable national agreements that transcend temporary solutions, interim arrangements, and limited understandings.

During the meeting, the issue of unifying the military institution and the steps taken by the President of the Presidential Council in this direction were discussed, in order to consolidate stability, protect the sovereignty of the state and support the path of building a unified Libyan state.
